Named for our neighborhood river, we have been crafting this handmade rocking chair for over 45 years. Robert Erickson’s invention, the contoured and flexible back slats that we call the “floating back”, provide a graceful design that’s strong enough to endure throughout the years while still remaining comfortable for long periods of sitting. The ergonomic design in our signature handmade rocker allows you to lose yourself in its calming, relaxing rock.

We’ve crafted this beautiful rocking chair over 750 times, and we continue to perfect our design through both function and form. Each rocker is handcrafted from a variety of woods, such as Pacific madrone or California walnut. We use simple shaping tools to fully sculpt the chair, and can adjust the proportions to suit the individual sitter. A review in the Atlantic Monthly of various custom rockers made in this country, including the classic Maloof Rocker, declared our rocker the “the highest nexus of art and ergonomics.”

Our South Yuba Rocking Chair can be found in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Racine Art Museum in Racine, Wisconsin.
