We have a pair of Wapiti Chairs in California walnut as of June, 2024
California walnut salvaged from an orchard removed by walnut grower Roger Moore near Grimes, CA.
California walnut is a difficult wood to work with because it is hard to dry properly and when it is grown as root stock for English walnut tops, the logs are short with knots and defect. This chair was designed to work with these idiosyncrasies and uses short pieces, 15 in all for a single chair. It demands lots of precise joinery to make it happen but it allows these logs of this gorgeous world class wood to be utilized.
