While visiting a Hallingdal farmhouse in Norway back in 1989, Robert was struck by the beauty and functionality of a three-legged chair he saw there. Created for Wim and Pauly van Muyden, the van Muyden Chair was inspired by its rustic yet elegant Nordic cousin, and was the first design in Erickson's Bent Arm Collection. Designed as a dining chair, it also works as an occasional chair or desk chair. It looks good both when made in a single wood, or with the seat in one wood and the frame in another. Cherry and quilted maple are a classic combination that blend nicely together in the van Muyden.
This chair is in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Yale University Art Gallery.
