Elrod Chair

The arm of the Elrod Chair—another piece from the Bent Arm Collection—mimics the curve of the leg in our Tashjian Chair.  With its grasshopper legs and undulating seat, the Elrod Chair holds you snug against the lumbar support of its flexible back. The chair is joined with fluted wooden dowels that have been oven-dried to shrink them down in size. Brushed with glue and driven into a mortice, the dowels will expand over time as they return to equilibrium moisture content, creating a strong and tight joint. We made the first Elrod Chair in quilted maple with bubinga slats and turquoise leather upholstery. At the moment we're working on an Elrod Chair in quartersawn sycamore with elm backslats and a seat in brown bison leather.
